A child's yellow vest with $750 cash sewn into the lining...A neglected painting set on the curb at a neighborhood rummage sale...A large equine skeleton stored in the archives of the Smithsonian. In 'Horse,' author Geraldine Brooks blends these three elements into a compelling braid of a story that takes us back to 1850s Kentucky and beyond. Based on the true story of the legendary racehorse Lexington, this book centers on themes of race and of art as a medium for social change.
